Preparing your home for decoration
A practical brief helps the work start in the right order. Agree what needs moving, what remains in place and which rooms need to stay usable.
Make a room schedule
List the walls, ceilings, doors and woodwork to be decorated in each room. Add photographs of damaged areas and features that need particular care. Note any work by other trades that must finish first. A room count alone can miss extensive joinery or a difficult stairwell.
Agree protection and access
Decide who will move furniture, take down curtains and remove fragile objects. Discuss floor protection, the route for materials, keys and storage. In a flat, check any building arrangements for lifts, deliveries and shared corridors. Keep the agreed responsibilities with the quotation.
Plan for daily use
Identify rooms that need to remain accessible and any constraints on noise or working hours. Discuss the proposed sequence rather than assuming all rooms can be worked on at once. Product drying and curing guidance should inform when surfaces can return to normal use.
