Each window is individually assessed for paint condition, timber integrity, glazing condition, putty state, and operational function. We photograph and record the condition of every window to create a comprehensive scope of work. For maintenance repaints, we sand back to a sound surface, spot-prime bare areas, and apply undercoat and top coat using flexible exterior paint systems designed for the movement that timber windows undergo with temperature changes. For windows requiring more extensive work, we strip back failed paint layers — often by hand to protect glazing bars and decorative detailing — using chemical strippers, heat guns, or careful sanding as appropriate. We repair any timber decay using specialist epoxy fillers for minor damage or splice in new timber sections for more significant decay, matching the original timber species and profile. Damaged glazing putty is raked out and replaced with fresh linseed oil putty, which is allowed to skin before painting. All bare timber is primed with quality wood primer, followed by undercoat and a flexible top coat in exterior gloss or satinwood. Where requested, we also carry out draught-proofing — fitting discreet brush seals or compression seals into the frame to dramatically improve energy efficiency without altering the window's appearance or operation.
