Exterior work in Chelsea begins long before any paint is applied. We conduct a thorough survey of the entire facade, systematically identifying areas of blown render, cracked stucco, failed previous coatings, vegetation growth, efflorescence, and any signs of damp ingress. This survey is documented with photographs and forms the basis of our detailed specification and quotation. All defective areas are repaired before painting: blown render is cut back and patched with compatible materials — lime-based render for Georgian and early Victorian buildings, cementitious render for later properties — ensuring repairs are structurally sound and visually seamless. The entire facade is then prepared by high-pressure washing to remove dirt, algae, and loose material, followed by a drying period. We apply a masonry stabiliser to seal porous surfaces, then a specialist masonry primer, followed by two full coats of premium exterior masonry paint. We use weather-appropriate products — breathable masonry paints for period buildings, elastomeric coatings where flexibility is needed, and Keim mineral paints where a heritage-appropriate, ultra-durable finish is required. All associated metalwork — railings, window frames, downpipes, and guttering — is painted as part of the project.
