Planning a decorative wallpaper scheme
For a decorative or hand-finished wallcovering, the paper specification and wall layout need to be understood before ordering.
Measure the actual walls
Record doors, windows, alcoves and changes in height. Pattern repeats, panels and focal points affect setting out and quantity. Do not base an order solely on floor area. Confirm the supplier’s measuring and ordering requirements for the chosen paper.
Assess the background
Existing paper, lining, plaster defects and staining can affect the preparation. Agree whether stripping or new lining is required. Delicate materials need a suitable background, and any areas of concern should be resolved before installation is scheduled.
Agree the setting out
Review the main view into the room, the starting point and the treatment of corners. Confirm the exact product, batch and current hanging instructions. Manufacturer names describe the proposed material; they do not imply an approved-installer relationship.
