All woodwork is prepared by sanding back to a sound, smooth surface using fine-grit papers, filling any imperfections with specialist fine surface filler that can be sanded flush, and priming bare or filled areas with the appropriate primer for the substrate — acrylic primer for modern softwood, alkali-resistant primer for MDF, and shellac-based primer for stain-blocking where needed. Existing sound paintwork is keyed by sanding and cleaned to remove dust and grease. We then apply an undercoat to build opacity and provide a smooth base for the top coat. The top coat — satinwood, eggshell, or gloss as specified — is applied by brush using techniques that lay off the paint smoothly and eliminate brush marks. For period moulding profiles, we use specialist narrow brushes and work methodically around each detail, ensuring paint flows into recesses without bridging or building up in corners. Cutting-in at wall junctions, carpet lines, and adjacent surfaces is done freehand by our experienced painters, achieving clean, precise lines without masking tape. For properties with extensive woodwork, we work systematically room by room, allowing each coat to dry fully before applying the next.
